Monika Lawrenz was born in East Germany. From the age of fourteen she was fascinated by photography. At the Art School in Hamburg (Hochschule fuer bildende Kuenste am Lerchenfeld) she studied photography and documentary film. Her first features were shown on German public Television. Ms. Lawrenz always tried to catch the movement of the music, the movement of the wind in the grass, of the cranes in flight. “I am a photographer of music and nature,” she said.
Monika Lawrenz has published books of portraits of musicians and artists, and of landscapes. She regularly gives workshops in landscape and nature photography and now lives in Mecklenburg, Germany, where she grew up and where most of her photographs were taken.
